Description

This effortless dessert combines the sweetness of spiced apple pie filling with the zesty tang of whole cranberries, all under a buttery, golden cake crust. It is a perfect crowd-pleasing treat that balances tart and sweet flavors with a satisfyingly crunchy walnut topping.

Ingredients

  • 21 oz can apple pie filling
  • 14 oz can whole berry cranberry sauce
  • 15.25 oz box yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, sliced thin
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and coat a 9×13-inch baking pan with nonstick spray.
  2. Spread the apple pie filling evenly across the bottom of the pan, then layer the cranberry sauce directly on top of the apples.
  3. Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the fruit layers, making sure not to stir or mix the ingredients.
  4. Place the thin butter slices over the cake mix to cover as much surface area as possible, then scatter the walnuts over the top.
  5. Bake for 50 to 55 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling, then let it cool for 15 minutes to set before serving.

Notes

To ensure a perfectly crisp topping without dry spots, try to cover the cake mix as thoroughly as possible with the butter slices. For an extra boost of flavor, you can sprinkle a pinch of sea salt over the walnuts before baking to balance the sweetness of the fruit.
