Description
A sophisticated Stormtrooper-themed cake that combines structural carving with precise fondant work. This recipe focuses on a dense cake base and monochromatic elegance, making it an ideal centerpiece for any Star Wars enthusiast.
Ingredients
- 12-inch round or 13×9 inch rectangular dense butter cake (Madeira or pound cake)
- Swiss Meringue Buttercream
- 14 oz white rolled fondant
- 2 oz black rolled fondant
- Cornstarch or powdered sugar for dusting
- Water for adhering fondant
- Stormtrooper face stencil
Instructions
- Bake the cake and allow it to cool completely, preferably overnight, to ensure a firm structure for carving.
- Place the paper stencil on the cake and use a small serrated knife to carve vertically around the edges to create the Stormtrooper silhouette.
- Apply a thin crumb coat of buttercream over the entire exterior of the carved cake and refrigerate until the frosting is firm.
- Roll out the white fondant to a 1/8-inch thickness on a dusted surface, drape it over the cake, and smooth it down the sides before trimming the excess.
- Roll out the black fondant and use the stencil guides to cut out the eyes, nose, mouth, and band.
- Lightly dampen the back of the black pieces with water and adhere them to the white fondant, finishing with small hand-rolled black vents on the cheeks.
Notes
To achieve a professional finish, ensure your kitchen is at a stable room temperature so the fondant remains pliable without becoming sticky. Use a fondant smoother or the palm of your hand to buff the white surface for a satin-like appearance before adding the black details.
