Description

This luscious Strawberry Tres Leches Cake elevates a simple strawberry cake mix into a decadent, milk-soaked masterpiece. Perfect for make-ahead entertaining, this dessert features a rich three-milk soak and a cloud of fresh vanilla whipped cream.

Ingredients

  • 1 box strawberry cake mix (plus eggs, oil, and water as required by package)
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 1 cup half-and-half
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pint fresh strawberries, chopped

Instructions

  1. Bake the strawberry cake mix in a greased and floured 9×13 inch pan according to the package directions.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and half-and-half until well combined.
  3. While the cake is still warm, use the handle of a wooden spoon or a chopstick to poke holes all over the surface of the cake.
  4. Slowly pour the milk mixture over the entire cake, allowing it to soak into the holes.
  5. Let the cake cool to room temperature, then cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  6. In a chilled mixing bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract on high speed until billowy peaks form.
  7. Spread the whipped cream over the chilled cake and garnish with fresh chopped strawberries before slicing and serving.

Notes

To ensure the best texture, allow the cake to soak in the refrigerator for the full overnight duration; this allows the crumb to fully absorb the cream without becoming mushy. If you want a more intense berry flavor, try crushing a few freeze-dried strawberries into the whipped cream topping for a vibrant pink finish.
