Description

Create a majestic and whimsical centerpiece with this edible architectural wonder, featuring sturdy yellow cake foundations and sparkling ice cream cone turrets. Perfect for royal celebrations, this guide focuses on structural stability and enchanting decorative details to ensure a professional-looking finish.

Ingredients

  • 3 boxes yellow cake mix (plus required ingredients listed on the boxes)
  • 4 containers white frosting
  • 9 flat-bottomed ice cream cones
  • 5 pointed sugar cones
  • Pink sugar sprinkles
  • White fondant
  • Yellow food coloring
  • Green food coloring
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Candy flowers
  • Shredded coconut

Instructions

  1. Bake two 8-inch rounds and two 9×13-inch rectangular cakes according to package instructions and cool them completely on a wire rack.
  2. Frost the nine flat-bottomed cones and five sugar cones with white frosting, coat them in pink sugar sprinkles, and refrigerate until the frosting is firm.
  3. Use a cake leveler to remove the domes from all four cake layers, ensuring a perfectly flat surface for stable stacking.
  4. Stack the two 9×13 rectangular cakes on a sturdy board with a layer of frosting between them, then frost the entire exterior.
  5. Place the first 8-inch round in the center of the base, frost the top, add the second round, and frost the sides and top of this upper tier.
  6. Cut small notches into the four corners of the rectangular base to accommodate the width of the ice cream cone towers.
  7. Place a flat-bottomed cone in each notch, stack a second flat-bottomed cone on top with frosting, and finish with an upside-down sugar cone as the spire.
  8. Roll out yellow-tinted fondant to cut out a door and windows, then use mini marshmallows along the cake edges to create battlements.
  9. Pipe green frosting vines and add candy flowers and green-tinted coconut grass around the base to complete the landscape.

Notes

To prevent the towers from shifting during transport, you can insert a long wooden skewer through the center of the stacked cones and into the base cake. If you are working in a warm environment, consider doing a ‘crumb coat’ of frosting first and chilling the cake for 30 minutes before applying the final decorative layer to prevent sagging.
